Ruta 40

Another shot of the Mule, my BMW motorcycle, but now deep in Patagonia, near Estancia Tapi Aike, Argentina. From the same road trip of app. 28,000 miles / 45,000 km that I did on my motorcycle through the Americas already feature here, on a previous post of mine. This road, Ruta National 40, runs the length of Argentina, from North to South, parallel to the Andes mountains. With its app. 3,250 miles / 5,200 km, it is the longest road in South America and one of the longest roads in the world. Until recently, RN 40 used to be one of those mythical roads for adventure motorcycle riders (together with the Carretera Austral in Chile, the Dalton Highway in the US, the Road of Bones in Russia, the Karakoram Highway in Pakistan, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera). It is now being surfaced. Sadly, for my tribe!

Shot on my li’l—and now rather old—PowerShot G12, my go-to camera for my extreme motorcycle rides: it fits in the pocket of my riding jacket; it shoots in RAW; and it has the picture control settings that one needs. A winner!
