Milky Way

Cabin fever and a lack of shooting opportunities sent me digging through old work, where I came across this image from Ossabaw Island off the coast of Georgia. The island is largely uninhabited, home only to a small number of Georgia Department of Natural Resources staff. Purchased by the Torrey family in 1924 as a private hunting retreat, Ossabaw later became a protected site when Eleanor Torrey West donated it to the State of Georgia in 1978. Her gift came with the stipulation that the island remain preserved for research, education, and environmental conservation. Today, access is rare and tightly controlled through the Ossabaw Foundation.

I love this. It reminds me on Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island.  The star field is stunning.

Thanks JCarl. Yes - it is very similar to Driftwood Beach on Jekyll.

@LucyLou,

Absolutely lovely!

Excellent composition.

That splash of yellow in the distance adds a nice touch!

Thanks Danny.  It was February so the Milky Way did not appear until around 4am.  The sun came up around 5:30 am, so we just made a night of it.  That splash of yellow was the beginning of a beautiful sunrise.

Thanks Rick.  Photographing the Milky Way is always so satisfying.
