The Elephant Trunk Nebula is contained within a larger area of ionized gas designated IC 1396. The entire structure (IC 1396) is approximately 2400 light years away from the Earth, in the constellation Cepheus. It is approximately 100 light years across.
This image represents 18 hours, 4 minutes, and 30 seconds of exposure, captured across 3 nights in June/July 2024. Camera gear used included the EOS Ra and the EF 400mm f/5.6L USM.
