Problems printing to IPF6300 for manual paper loading

I'm tearing my hair out. Printing from Mac OX 10.8. Same thing happens from any application. When I go to the paper handling section and select manual I get

Manual is not available.
To print with Manual selected, change the paper size to a size compatible with the paper tray.

I have checked and checked and I have A3 set everywhere (Print Setup, etc) that I can see. I've done this before but it's been awhile. Any insight?

The learning curve compared to a desktop printer can be intimidating. In the past Canon has been tailing the other makers when it comes to ease of use. Paper types aren't always obvious, and the control panel on the printer is the least intuitive.

With the imagePROGRAF Print Plug-in for Photoshop you can handle all the printing settings from within one dialog box.  This plug-in works with Photoshop. There is also a version of the plug-in for use with Canon's Digital Photo Pro software.
