I have an iMac computer, and recently, it told me that I need an update to a certain Kext.  I found out the Kext in question was a Canon Kext.  It told me the old version and the new version numbers.  Can anyone please help me find this Kext so I may update it?  Thank You

Hi!

To have a better understanding of your issue, please let everyone know the model of the printer you have.

If this is a time-sensitive matter, please check out your other support options here.

Thanks!

I have a Canon PIXMA MG6220 PRINTER.

It would also be helpful to know what version of MAC OS are you using that has kext extensions.

Greetings,

The MG6220 is about 13 yrs old.  It hasn't been officially supported since Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.  You might be able to continue using the printer with MAC OS Sequoia, with limited features support using AirPrint.

I would recommend assigning the printer a static IP.  Then remove the printer using the minus (-) button from the Printer and Scanners.  Next uninstall all Canon software from the Applications folder.  Next step, important, restart your MAC.

Mow return to the Printers and Scanners applet.  Add printer, important, select the globe symbol which allows you to add the printer by its IP address.  Select AirPrint as the "driver", and add the device.   I cannot comment on the level of device support you might see.  You'll have to try.

If that fails or is not useful... Another option would be the Canon Upgrade program.  This is a program Canon offers to customers who own products which are EOL, cannot be serviced due to parts availability or have compatibility limitations with newer operating systems.  You can receive a small discount and free shipping on a new product that meets your needs.  After more than a decade, I think it's safe to say you got a great return on your investment.  If you'd like to take advantage of this program, you can reach an upgrade specialist Monday ~ Friday at 1-866-443-8002.
