I have a 2025 MacBook Air running OS Sequoia 15.5. I want to use a Canon MF4770n printer. I realize that Canon no longer supports it, however I was able to download and install the printer software and drivers from the Canon website. On the download page, it said that OS 15 was supported (seems like a contradiction). I have the printer connected to the computer using a USB-A cable from the printer to a USB-C hub connected to one of the Mac's USB-C ports. I added the printer on the Mac, but when I tried to print, I got an error message: Stopped. "Filter" Failed.
Not sure what that means. Is it still possible to use this printer on this new Mac? Many thanks for replies.

Greetings ,
You should be able to use this printer with Sequoia based on the information available on its support portal. I'm on a mobile device and I couldn't get the software downloads to display. I'll try on my PC shortly.
The issue you're experiencing could be related to the cable you are using or hub? By hub did you mean thunderbolt or USB-C Port or are you actually using an external hub. If you're using an external hub, the device may not be detected properly. Conversely, the pin out on the USB cable needs to be the correct for your Mac. Unfortunately, not all printer cables are created equally 😀.

Hmm,
Not seeing software downloads for the 4770n on the Canon USA website.
I did find drivers on the Canon Canada Web Site:

Thank you for your replies, Rick. I'm using an external multi-port hub, connecting the USB-A plug to a USB port in the hub. The hub has a USB-C connector to plug into the Thunderbolt port on the Mac. Previously the printer was connected to an older (2014) MacBook Pro directly using the same cable. The printer worked fine on that computer. Do you think I have to upgrade the cable? What was weird was that after I successfully downloaded the printer software and drivers from the Canon U.S.A. website, and the printer didn't work, I went back to the same page to check to make sure that I had downloaded everything, but the download buttons were gone, and there was just a message saying that Canon no longer supported the printer. Sure wish I understood what "Filter" failed means on the error message.
