CANON app does not connect to canon selphy CP1300

I have a CANON Selphy CP1300

It connects perfectly to my laptop and the Selphy app. Once I press PRINT it switches over the the CANON printer app. The CANON app does not find the printer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I've restarted the printer. I've gone through all connecting options.

Does anyone else have this problem with the CANON app? 

Has anyone been able to solve this problem?

My phone runs Android. I'm not sure what version.

The CP 1300 supports both wireless and wireless direct.  If it is connected to your wireless network, your phone must also be connected to the same network in order for it to detect and print.  This connection method requires a wireless router. 

The CP 1300 also supports wireless direct.  In this mode, a single device can connect directly to the printer.  No router is required.
