Stationary video starts in focus, then gets unfocused (ELPH160)

I'm using a Canon PowerShot ELPH160 to take stationary videos to prepare for music performances, and I can no longer take any clear videos. They occasionally focus for a few seconds at the start, then get completely fuzzy! If I put my hand near the lens, I can see it's focused at extremely close range. What's going wrong?

According to page 54 of the user manual, it looks like you should be able to Focus Lock on your subject.

Are you shooting in daylight or indoors? Low lighting indoors may make it difficult for the camera to auto focus continously.
