PowerShot G12 replacement recommendations

Coz

I know this topic has been discussed over the years, but since things have changes so much, thought I re-ask the question.

I've had my PowerShot G12 since 2010. Even though the lens suffers scratching from the protective shutter (a common complaint for this model) it still works pretty good. Unfortunately, the scratches are creating blurred spots on many pictures. That being the case, it's time for a new camera.

Two things I like about the camera is the size and the ability to set the timer for an adjustable number of shots. The camera is used while traveling, hiking and even floating down the river on kayaks.

Question: What current cameras might be a suitable replacement with similar features?

Greetings,

The majority of PowerShot devices went on a hiatus, but Canon has recently released two cameras that might fit the bill.  One is the PowerShot V1 and the other is the R50v.  I know my R50v can capture a set number of frames when the self timer is used.  V1 is the same (10 max).

The G12 was not water resistant, weather sealed or waterproof by any means.  Neither are the cameras above.  That's pretty daring of you taking your G12 rafting 🤣.

Both of the cameras above are available for immediate delivery.  Canon is rumored to be developing a new PowerShot G Series, however no official announcement, specs or release date has been given.  If you need something now it might be best to consider the V1 or R50v

Either of these cameras would offer you a huge upgrade (in features and image quality) in comparison to your 15-year-old 10MP G12. They also both support 4K video, which can bring your memories to life.  You don't have to use it if you don't want to but it sure is nice to have the option.

Excellent info!

While I've never flipped my kayak while using my camera, I have spilled plenty of beer on it. Fortunately I've been very good at cleaning the camera after such extreme uses. 😋

I have looked at the EOS R50 in the past. I find it a bit more desirable due to the grip. As far as a new PowerShot G model coming in the foreseeable future, I don't think I'm going to hold my breath.

Thank you for your awsome suggestions and information.

For kayaking and beer spills I would look at the Olympus TG series.  I think they are at TG-6 now

Thanks for the suggestion. I see the TG-6 also has a timer. I considered a waterproof camera in the past but never took that leap. There's been times where my G12 got so wet while on my mini tripod in torrential downpours there was water dripping off of it.
