PowerShot SX510 HS On/off button doesn't work and I can only power it on by taking battery out?

The on off button no longer works, this could be due to water damage when I was caught in a massive thunder and lighting storm as my camera was soaked and shut of at the time but soon after I got a new camera and never went back to my old one however since my power shot  is light and small it's handy and the only way to get the camera on is puttting the battery in and out to get it of, any idea how I can fix it or if I can pay to get it fixed? It could have been if it was water damaged about 1 year ago, everything else works fine! I own the power shot sx510 hs

Yep... Wait for the Deoxit! It seems to be a kind of magic elixir. Smiley Wink I bought some locally at Sweetwater Sound which is a big music gear distributor. Might check with anyone in your area who  repairs amps, speakers or other musical equipment. Maybe even a local computer repair shop...?

Okay cool! I will do that meanwhile I am going to this local guys business who checks out cameras and has a look at them without the fees! Reaaaally hope I can get it fixed 🙂

I know that it's been so long, but did it work for you? I have the same button issue now too LOL

Hey John, thanks so much for the info, you saved me so much money, troubles and worries. I was also caught by surprise by a storm and my camera got some issues with on/off button until it finally stopped switching on completely. I only spent £8 for the contact cleaner and it immediately solved the problem! Then only downside is that the button (it's actually more like a lever to pull up and down) is a bit stiff now, not sure if the product I sprayed left a sort of layer that makes friction?
