Canon SX50 HS and cannot crop pictures

I cannot crop pictures on the Canon SX50 HS camera. I receiave the error message "Cannot Modify image". Can someone suggest the way to do this?

Images taken in the small format S or Raw images cannot be editied, are you using either of those?

Also if you resized the image to XS size you cannot edit it either.
