My camera screen does not work. It powers on and can take pictures but the screen does not work.

When/where is the screen not working? Does it show anything when you turn on the camera?
How do you know it's taking pictures? Can you view images on the screen after taking them?
Do you see anything when pressing the MENU button?
You need to say more about what's going on.
Of course, on this 10 year-old camera the display may just have died.

When I turn on the camera I see nothing on the screen, its just black, but I can zoom in and everything. I know it's taking pictures cause I after I take some pictures I take the memory card out and check on my computer and the picture I take are there.

Well it sounds like your display has died, regrettably. I don't know if Canon or anyone else could/would do anything for you.
