Canon PowerShot A540: Format function in the settings is grayed out

I bought this digicam a few weeks ago and for some reason the 'format' function in the settings is grayed out so my controls just go past it. Is there a way to fix this?

i Jangdang,

Do a factory reset on the camera to see if this still happens.  If yes, get it exchanged at the shop you bought it from.

Whenever i try to do it, it says its busy. is there a way to fix this?

Hi jangdang!  Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PowerShot A540 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you find a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!

Are you using the proper card? The manual says that it meets "SD card standards", which implies that you need a plain vanilla SD card, which can only go to 2 GB. The System Map shows a 16 *M*B card!

Yep! I bought a 2gb card from the brand "Transcend" that is said to work well with older camera brands and even bought the official mmc-16m card from canon as well
