mreg, it's the top document feeder part, that's what it's called in the manual. Feeds multiple sheets of paper hands free.

Thank you, shadowports. I did look at Canon's product and parts site before posting, but it's an older discontinued model. Just thinking there might be magic out there and someone had one!! thanks.

You mean the part that you can flip open and closed?

No, above the opening section where you put the ink cartridge is an angled feeder with an inserted "wing" plate that extends the length of the feeder to hold up multiple sheet of paper. That section was broken off.
