MF753Cdw II - not scanning to destination folder

DJBigCheese

It will scan an image via wifi to my PC using the Scan|Computer function just fine, but choosing different folder path syntaxes is making my head explode. Windows 11 environment.

The best path I syntax I can come up with is \\i9-12900k\Users\DJBig\Documents\Canon from the Windows explorer path but this just yields a basic error. Then I tried \\i9-12900k\Canon from the "Network File and Folder Sharing" view on the folder's sharing tab. I tried adding "Everyone" to the sharing with Read/Write permissions. Nope.

According to the internet, the hyphen in the hostname is allowed as long it isn't at the beginning or the end of the name.

I'm wondering if there is some permission setting I'm missing.

SOLUTION: I had the default software installation put on the PC. In the end after much tweaking and configuration, these settings ended up working in my Windows 11 environment:

In addition, I performed the following steps on my PC:
1. First create the folder name & destination in Explorer
2. Then right click the new folder Properties| Sharing | Share... to add 'Everyone' with Read/Write permissions. In the Advanced Sharing button check 'Share this folder'. Then in the Permissions button below set 'Everyone' to Full Control. Apply & Save twice. In the Security Tab ensure 'Everyone' has full control.
3. Then in your Network and Internet settings click on Advanced Network Settings | Advanced Sharing Settings. Here we will enable 'Network Discovery' and 'File and Printer Sharing'. Right below in the 'All Networks' section we need to disable the 'Password Protected Sharing'.
4. Finally in Control Panel go to Programs and Features | Turn Windows features on or off. Scroll down to SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support and enable it. (It's some kind of Legacy feature and proved to be the final straw that worked)

After a couple dozen failed attempts it all works. Made a mini documentary about the process so I don't have to waste 3 days figuring this out ever again!

Greetings,

I only scan to one PC.  I have its path saved in the printer's address book.  It's Windows OS and I'm using a similar UNC path like yourself.  I modified the folder permission allowing my user r-w permissions.  It works great.

I use scan to email the majority of the time and have about 4 addresses saved.  This way I don't have to have a PC turned on.

Your issue.  It's likely the folder destination you're trying to use is inheriting permissions from a top-level folder.

The SMB paths are entered kind of funkily on the MF753cdw (at least to me).   Put the name of the share in the Host section, ie \\computername\share, and then put the folder path after that in the Folder Path section.   So, if you had a computer named "foobar" and a share named "usershare", and the folder in the user share is "canonfiles", you'd enter "\\foobar\usershare" in the Host section, and "\canonfiles" in the Folder Path section (without the quotes).

Not particularly intuitive, but that's what worked for me with a macos SMB share, should work for windows, as well.

That might be the issue.

Just put the hostname in the top field.  See my previous image.

Mine is corsair.  This is the plain text name that appears when you select Computer from the Scan menu.  The path below is \\corsair\users\Documents

Or the destination of your choice

If your path, username or password is not correct, you'll get an error print from the log.  Unless you change this setting, you only get a error log print If there's a failure by default.

Quick question.  What software did you install on the computer?

I just went through Scan to Email and Scan to Folder destination (from scratch) on my MF644.

The MF753 Cdw II is no different.

Greetings,

Interesting solution.  Worth noting, ensure you have a static IP set for the printer on your router.  This is needed if you are using DHCP.  This is because the IP address of the printer could change.  If that happens, the path to your destination will be broken.  SMB 1.0 is a deprecated protocol.  Microsoft hasn't used it since 2017.  There's a reason why it's disabled by default.  It's highly insecure. You can Google for more information 😉

How would one gain access to my PC through SMB 1.0?
