Hello! Thanks for posting about your MF287dw.

I know how frustrating it is when a printer cover feels "jammed" or simply won't latch shut. Typically, this model has a safety mechanism that physically prevents the door from closing if the toner cartridge isn't perfectly aligned. This is to prevent damage to the drum or the door itself.

Steps to troubleshoot:

  1. Remove the Toner: Lift the operation panel/scanning unit and open the toner cover. Remove the cartridge completely.

  2. Inspect the Cavity: Use a flashlight to check the back of the printer inside the slot. Look for any torn pieces of paper, orange packing tape, or shipping clips that might have fallen in.

  3. Check the Cartridge: Ensure the orange protective cover has been completely removed from the drum on the cartridge itself.

  4. The "Push" Technique: Slide the cartridge back in. The critical part is the end—you often need to give it a firm push until it clicks or locks into the rear of the machine. If the cartridge springs back slightly when you let go, it isn't locked, and the door will strike the top of the cartridge.

  5. Check the Latch: Look at the plastic hook on the underside of the lid and the corresponding hole on the printer body. If either looks physically snapped or broken, that would require a repair.

Still not closing? If the cartridge is seated and the latch looks fine, but it still won't close, please contact our support team for warranty service options.
