How to change MF663CDW from letter (government) to regular letter plain

I have an MF663CDW that was set to Letter Plain in the paper tray (default setting).  After changing the paper type to legal and printing, I attempted to change back to letter paper in the paper tray.  For some reason, the printer is only showing options for Letter government, legal government, etc..  How do you change back to just plain letter and legal size options?

Hello!

Welcome to the Canon Community! The "Letter (Government)" setting is a specific standard that sometimes gets selected by default, but we can definitely get you back to the standard "Letter" (8.5 x 11) for your daily printing.

We need to check two places: the physical machine and the software on your computer.

Step-by-Step Guide to Changing Paper Size

1. Check the Printer’s Paper Source Settings

First, we ensure the printer knows what paper is physically in the tray.

  • On the MF663Cdw Home Screen, select Paper Settings.

  • Choose the Paper Source you are using (e.g., Main Cassette or Multi-purpose Tray).

  • Select Change if the size currently says "Letter (Government)" or anything other than "Letter."

  • Select Letter from the list and tap OK.

2. Adjust the Print Driver Settings

If the printer is set correctly, the command is likely coming from the computer.

  • Open your document and select Print.

  • Click on Printer Properties, Preferences, or Printer Setup.

  • Navigate to the Page Setup or Paper/Quality tab.

  • Ensure Document Size (and Output Size) is set to Letter.

  • Click Apply/OK to save.

🔧 Troubleshooting: "I changed the settings, but it's still wrong!"

If you have verified both steps above and the printer still asks for Government Letter, you may have a driver conflict or corruption. The best fix here is to reinstall the software to ensure a clean connection.

You have two options for this:

  1. Download the Driver: You can grab the latest official driver directly from the Canon Website. We recommend the "Generic Plus UFR II" or "MF Driver" package.

  2. Guided "Fresh Start" Setup: For a complete walkthrough that helps you reinstall the software from scratch, follow our official guided setup at https://canon.us/MF663Cdwsetup.

Thanks for the reply.  The issue is on the printer itself.  When we go to change the paper size using the steps listed in the reply, we can't seem to get it to show just letter.  For some reason, the printer only shows options with "(Government)" after them.  I tried to scroll the display using a finger swipe on the touch screen, but was only able to make it move one selection,.  How can I easily scroll the display to find just "Letter"?  Can this setting be changed via the remote UI, or is there a way to set it so that it will just use any paper in the drawer, regardless of size?
