Canon drivers for Linux not deleting Private Tmp folders for "service unit" on shutdown/reboot

I have had to do "dirty shutdowns" while working out a problem with Wine/PlayOnLinux/Diablo 3 (Blizzard).

Each dirty shutdown causes Canon's PrivateTmp "service units" to re-write directories to /var/tmp.

I now have about 70 of the above named directories in /var/tmp. Which can be deleted without causing more problems?

So I ask this post to be forwarded to the Canon Linux printer driver devs or for it to be brought to their attention. I ask that the Canon coders seek help in the broader Linux community for help, if they can find it in their hearts to do so.

In direct response to your questions I have a Maxify MB2320 device.

I have posted about my problems at the Linux site: Launchpad. There are 2 posts and I will give the URL's below. And as much information as I have. I apologize I am an end user and know little of the operating system.

My first problem is one of the drivers (I cannot know whether it's the printer or scanner driver) is adding files whose filenames start with cnij. The Canon products are adding these cnij* files to /var/tmp. There, they take up vast megabytes or gigabytes of disk space. So much space that the lack of disk space is stopping the operating system from being able to boot. As this problem grew worse I had to post at Ubuntu Forums about it. My temporary fix is to weekly remove those files. (sudo rm /var/tmp cnij*)

My second problem is the drivers or ancillary software are not deleting PrivateTmp folders on a dirty shutdown/re-boot. This may or may not be a Canon device/software problem, but the folder names (such as colord) make me think it's related. I'm no coder, so I ask your pardon if I'm mistakenly ascribing this problem to my Canon products.

I had problems with installing and operating a video game and that caused a number of dirty re-boots. Each time that happened, folders written into var/tmp grew and now I have over 70 such sub-directories. If you wish to see all 70, they are at https://paste.ubuntu.com/16968056/
