Retail Price Setting By Manufacturers

  • Am I the only one who is tired of paying the high prices for cameras and lenses? Even third party lens manufacturers set retail prices. You can't shop for a bargain. You can thank the US Supreme Court for that Easter Egg. In 2007, they ruled that manufacturers could set retail prices to, get this, protect the smaller retailers. Now, how many of you shop at mom and pop photo stores? Or, better yet, are there any mom and pop photo stores around? Not many in the  Philadelphia area. Go to Amazon and the only moderately priced gear is gray market. I would love to have a Canon 70-200 f2.8 lens but I simply cannot afford to pay $2000.

This is really the wrong place to have this discussion.

But there are options to get lenses cheaper.

There is the Canon refurbished store.

You can rent one from Lens Rentals and if you like that sample, they will sell it to you for a used price.
