Should I use a 2.2 multiplier on my EF-S 18-55mm lens or get a better lens?

New to all of this, Canon rebel T1i

I remember the McEnroe commercials and wanting to buy the Rebel in it's debut but life got in the way, years later on a whim I searched and found very affordable versions so now I'm on my quest. I've toyed with mine for a few days and decided to search to see it other lens were available and to what cost. I typed in telephoto lens in a ebay search and was directed to a 2.2 multiplier that appears to screw onto the inside threads on the end of the 18-55 EFS lens supplied with the Rebel. Has anyone tried this with satisfactory results or is it a fools errand and should just look for a better lens instead?

The screw-on-the-front lenses are junk, and place strain on the lens.

Your Rebel can use any EF or EF-S lens ever made. While new ones are less and less available, used ones are plentiful, and from reputable used dealers who provide good warranties. B&H Photo Video is a top new dealer.

Get the EF-S 55-250. It will complement the range from the 18-55 and get you more than just 2.2X. The whole point of an interchangeable lens camera is to interchange the lenses.
