My image garden performance

We like the image garden and features but it is a very slow performing app.  The pc I have it on is a Gen 8 i7 intel with SSD and a nvidia GPU.  This machine is very fast.  But this application hangs a lot and is a struggle to get some of the things done. Anyone else have this issue? Any resolution to it?

I see a lot of people have the freezing problem.  MIG has never worked very intuitively, but now it doesn't work at all.  It seems like part of it is this "Identifying People" capability is running constantly, even though I have turned it off in preferences.

Why can't I turn this unwanted "feature" off?
