For the first time in several years, I have purchased a new camera and downloaded the user manual to get familiar. I have tried to highlight sections and it is telling me that alterations are password protected. I am also not able to utilize the Bookmark icon. Never had this happen before and I have always been able to mark up previous PDF's for easy reference. Can anyone help me or clue me in to why this is now a thing? Thank you.

Greetings,
The user manual you downloaded is in fact protected, it cannot be modified.
All you need to do is save a copy. That can be edited to your hearts content.
Note you need to have a .PDF editor to edit or modify .PDFs. A free version like acrobat reader will not work. You'd need something like Acrobat Standard or Professional to create, edit or redact .PDF's.
If you tell us the model of your Canon product, we'll post a working URL for you. 🙂

Thank you. I just bought the EOS R8. First time mirrorless user. Have saved the instructions to Apple's Books and was surprised to find that even the Bookmark icon on the file wasn't working.
