Is it possible to upgrade to a digital canon that would allow me to use the lens from my EOS RebelX and what camera will do this

If your lens is an EF lesn it would work on any of the digital cameras.
If your lens is an EF-S lens it will only work on the crop bodies, the rebels up to the 7D.
Your lens should work.

Ditto what Lieonel said.

Sharolyn, just in case you're not familiar with Canon's model numbers for recent models, the 1D and 5D series are "below" the 7D and EF-S lenses will not work. (Not to say these aren't great cameras, its just a matter of sensor size).
