Did you mean:

Is the 75-300 EF lens that bad?

I've been looking at buying a zoom lens for my camera, I don't want a very expensive one as my camera is quite old (EOS 400D) and I have found 75-300 EF lenses quite cheap second hand, but I've heard nothing good about them, so is theyre any other lenses I should get instead

How much do you want to spend on a lens before a lens is recommended. I would assume that you have some version of the EF-S 18-55mm kit lens.

Greetings,

If you are looking at this focal length, go with the EF 70-300 f4-5.6 IS USM II.

It is head and shoulders above the 75-300 which is an entry level lens without iS.

Now for the facts. There are thousands, no I mean hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions, of people that are completely satisfied with that lens. Canon has included a version of it in countless kits over the years. The thing is people are just fine with it until someone comes along and tells then they are not good lenses.

When I did DSLR 101 classes the Rebel kit that included a version of that zoom lens was the most common and enjoyed lens kits out there. It was designed for a purpose market which it has filled quite well. So, the bottom line is up to you, if it fills that need for your particular requirements it is the best lens there is. Remember the lens you own and have is always better than the lens you wish you has.
