Godox V100 vs V1 Pro for Canon R6 Mark II

Hi all,

I am thinking about purchasing a Godox flash for my R6 Mark II. Does anyone have a recommendation between the V100 and the V1 Pro? They are both priced the same on B&H Photo.

Godox doesn’t have the best track record of reverse engineering Canon’s E-TTL flash system. Some incompatibilities have still yet to be resolved and have been going on for years. Some incompatibilities will lock up your camera with error 70. The problem is the Godox flash. This problem hasn’t been resolved by Godox. When Canon switched to the EOS R series. They changed how the speedlite’s AF Assist Beam signal is handled. Canon’s speedlites switch to Intermittent Flash Firing instead of the IR Beam firing. A Godox speedlite will fail to interrupt the modified signal and lock up the camera. Simply turning off the AF Assist Beam doesn’t work. It will still fire and lock up the camera.

I’ve been using the V100 on my R6 M2 for about 6 months (approx 1k shots with flash) and have had no issues at all in both manual and E-TTL modes. Never locked up my camera either. The only eccentricity is when mounting the flash unit don’t push it all the way forward, only until you hear and feel it “click” into place. If you push too far forward the pins don’t line up properly and it may not fire.
