These are about the same price refurbished. I'm thinking that the R50V might be a fun upgrade from my phone and it might even be fun enough to shoot some wildlife (yes, I know it would be like putting the RF 200-800 onto my phone, but doesn't that sound at least a bit interesting and entertaining?
I got a new Samsung Ultra S25 about a year ago thinking I might want to shoot in Pro mode and get raw pics and use the manual controls. I really don't do that. The camera does a really good job on automatic for what I use it for. And I also never shoot videos anymore.
Yes, I know I CAN do at least some of this with my phone, but to date I really don't want to hunt and peck for that "portrait" mode button which doesn't let me really decide anything unless I get it into manual mode.
Yes, I realize the R50V is primarily for videos.
Yes, I know the R50V doe NOT have a viewfinder and I've shot cameras with a viewfinder most all of my life, though I DO take pictures with my phone too. I'm not dead yet!
I'm think it would fit into a hole for a 'real' camera that's using more familiar controls than my phone to get those effects I'm used to with a camera while still having much of a phone camera feel to it.
It would also be a great light/small travel camera for when I don't want to have some big red and black or white and red and black thing making me look like "a photographer" and standing out as much from everyone using their phones for photos. And portable for both for macros and for astrophotography with the EF100mm f/2.8 IS Macro and for astrophotography on smaller objects with the 200-800. Milky Way will still be (for me) with the R6 Mark ii and the RF 15-35mm f/2.8 L IS USM at 15mm. I don't really see that I need a viewfinder for macrophotography or astrophotography. So it could be dedicated for that use and also my "go to" travel solution. Add in the RF 24-240mm lens and I'm set (since I have it already, otherwise the Sigma 16-300mm Contemporary would be an option).
And I'm wondering out loud if acquiring birds might not be easier with just the screen rather than the viewfinder - I'm getting older and blinder.
And I'm wondering if viewfinders really should go the way of the dodo bird and I should convert to screen shooting. No, I don't really believe this, but as I've never really done serious work with just a screen my opinion is prejudiced.
There, that should give everyone enough rocks and feathers to hurl at the topic.
