EOS R100 + RF200-800 F6.3-9 IS USM Compatibility

So I do aviation photography and am currently using an EOS R100 and was looking into the RF200-800 and was wondering if it works as well as it does with the more expensive bodies such as the R5,6, and 7 models; and is worth getting in comparison to my current 75-300mm

Hi @TuckerW the lens will be a great optical & mechanical improvement over the 75-300mm both the EF RF Mount versions. The RF Mount version is a remount of the older EF Mount counterpart. Just with a permanent EF-RF Mount adapter built in. But it’s not fully compatible with the highly advanced AF system found in modern EOS R series camera. The EF Mount version is the same way.

Greetings ,

Lenses are the real investment in photography.

The RF 200 800 is intended for a full frame body, but is compatible with your R100.  It will give you an equivalent field of view of 320 -1280.  It can dramatically outperform the focal length of your 70 - 300 allowing you to be quite a bit farther from your subjects.  It's a great lens for wildlife and aviation photography.  I would suggest a tripod as shooting handheld will be challenging.

So as far as quality goes, the 200-800 would have better image quality over what I get with the 75-300?

@TuckerW yes and mechanical quality too. The 75-300mm is known to be of Canon’s most optically poor lens. Also it uses an AF Motor first released in August 1990 (36 years ago). It’s very slow and noisy compared to newer lenses with USM, STM & VCM. Micro Motor doesn’t allow full time manual focus override like newer RF Mount lenses or older EF Mount Ring Type USM, Nano USM and STM lenses.

An APS-C camera only uses the center of the lens and not the edges. The center is usually the best part of the lens.
