Canon 5d Mark III or 80D

Hello!

So I've been rocking my canon 500d for 7+ years, its the camera I learned on and I love it, but obviously it's really old and I think I'm due for an upgrade.

I'm on a budget, so the ones I can really see myself affording is the 5d mark III or the 80D. I've always wanted a full frame but I also want to dabble with video a bit and I know the 80D is better for that. I'm really torn with regards to which one I should get! Any suggestions?

Greetings,

Between the two cameras you are considering and the body you are coming from, I'd probably go for the 80D. I believe it represents a more significant upgrade over the 5d mkIII.  Since you also interested in exploring video, the 80D does offer a higher level of performance in this regard.

It is also likely that all of your lenses if Canon brand will work on an 80D.

While I would like to recommend an upgrade to mirrorless over a DSLR, it would represent substantial capital expense, body and lenses over moving to a newer DSLR.  This is not to say that they aren't more affordable than people think, but I want to be mindful of your budget.
