E60D - various Canon lenses
Is there any way to shut off the autofocus "pip" noise indication?
This noise is very disturbing in a quiet environment, & doesn't
seem necessary given the red indicator flash.

You mentioned E60D which I suspect means EOS 60D.
In that case... press "Menu", navigate to Red camera tab 1 (there are 4 red camera tabs across the top). It's the 2nd row down labeled "Beep". Change it to "disable".

There should be a Beep setting under one of the menus. If not it might be hidden in the customs menu.
