Using the LCD screen

I have recently purchased a scope and adapter, and I'm trying to digiscope.  I have a Canon 7D and would like to use my LCD screen as my veiwfinder.  As instructed in the manual, I push the Start/Stop button, but nothing happens.  Is there some other setting that I need to adjust?  It works when I switch to video, but not for still photos.  I am perplexed.

Look up "using Live View in your manual. I think you set it differently than to shoot video.

Thanks to those that replied. I found my problem. In settings I had to enable live mode. I figured it was something like that and I swear I looked, but I didn't see it until yesterday.
