Rebel T3i Camera Shuts off automatically

Rebel T3i Camera Shuts off automatically during movie recording.  It does this with all of my memory cards.  I just received a brand new SanDisk Class 10 256MB SDXC UHS-I card & tried it several times with the same result.  It shuts off after 11-12 minutes.  I also made sure that the Power Saving setting was turned off.

The movie recording stops when the file size gets to 4 Gb in size. You may be reaching the limit in file size. From the manual:

Yes, it looks like you can only record about 11 minutes before reaching 4 GB file size at those two resolutions.

How long does it record before shutting off? Its internal temperature may be getting too high.  It tells you when it is. See page 163 of your Instruction Manual.

It shut off at 12 minutes with the brand new card.  I'm recording again to see if the warning symbol shows up.

The new very-large card may be tempting you to record for too long at a time.

I checked the manual for the over-heating indicator.  When I did the last recording, there was no over-heating symbol.  It shut off at 11:55.  I'm running another test now with the file size knocked down to 1280/60fps.  It was at 1920/1080.

The file size limit is 4 GB, even at 1280 x 720 resolution. The chart I posted above still says 11 minutes for that resolution, as well as 1920 x 1080.

640 x 480 will give you 46 minutes of recording time, but I think that that is over-ridden by an overall 30 minute limitation per recording.

Hi Bob:
Yes, I was heading in that direction, given the OP suggests it shuts down about that time.

Sorry for the delay.  The file size is 3.98GB.
