R5 Mark II Shutter Continuously Firing

Eskimosand

I just installed firmware version 1.30 on my Canon R5 Mark II today. I went to the local wildlife refuge to test it out. Everything worked fine for about an hour. After that, when I turned on the camera the shutter constantly released as long as the camera was on, without pressing the shutter button. When switched from photo to video mode, the video icon was in the viewfinder but the shutter kept firing. Removing the batteries, waiting a minute, then reinstalling them did nothing to solve the problem. The menu is not accessible. Removing the storage cards will prevent the camera from firing but the menu is still not accessible.

It was in the mid 90's outside but the viewfinder showed no overheating icon.

Could this be a glitch in the new firmware? Weather sealing issue on shutter button?(sweat)

What kens are you using? Have you tried removing the lens and any other accessories, including mount adapters, to see if the he problem persists?

I had a similar issue with this, put the battery off, remove the lens, wait 10-15 minutes. Try again. It should be fixed, if not, try it again. Then shoot without lens 5 times. If there is no problem at all with that, clean the lens contacts both body and lens. Then, it should be good to go. If not, get it to a repair store.

I am using the Canon 200-800mm with the 1.4X teleconverter.

The camera started working the next day. I reinstalled the firmware just in case. It seems to be working but I have not had a chance to go out and test it in the field.

I will keep your advice in mind should the problem reoccur.

Thanks
