That's indeed interesting.  I don't speak or read Japanese, but I'd be curious as to if the above English translations were done via some automatic translation vs. an actual native speaker.   There may literally be some things lost in translation.

Having studied four languages, Ricky is correct as translations lose some things in meaning, implication, etc. I remember my Latin teacher in junior school stating: "Translate into good English." But that doesn't always work with many languages.

Looks to me like they're paving the way for an EOS R1 to fill the "pro" slot.

The DSLR and mirrorless lines are set up pretty much equivalently, in terms of product names -- 5D == R5, 6D == R7, etc.  I think we now know which R camera goes in the bottom tier.  So R3 is at the top end of amateur; and I guess R1 will be pro.  Can't wait to see what that looks like.
