Why does my Live View histogram differ slightly from the playback histogram, and which is more accurate?

Raw or JPEG?
I would have to say that the playback histogram is more accurate since it has to make fewer assumptions about WB, et al.

I'm using the 5D Mark III and shooting RAW.

The histogram for *both* is an approximation since it displaying a histogram for the jpeg from the internal JPEG engine. I can easily believe that the LiveView histogram is a histogram of the live view display which is a speed-optimised jpeg/video display, *not* the fully-processed JPEG.

So you are saying that the playback histogram is more accurate?

As far as it goes. The playback histogram is still based on the JPEG data, not the Raw data.
