EOS Rebel T7 won't take pictures

I just got a canon rebel T7. I bought a 64 gb SD card for it and the battery is fully charged but when I attempt to take a picture it doesn’t take it or it acts like it did but no image shows up. I feel stuck and I feel like my camera is broken. Is my SD card supposed to be formatted before being used on the camera and if so how do I do that?

Generally, the pre-format on the card is OK. But you can format in the camera using the menus

Hello, and welcome to the Canon Community!

If you've never used an interchangeable lens camera, you may want to download and familiarize yourself with your camera's documentation.

The smaller manual walks you through setting up your camera and how to use it for the first time.

That lineup of cameras doesn’t work with SD Cards larger than 32GB (SDHC). Also avoid using Micro SD Cards in an Adapter. Use Full Size cards.

Not according to the manual:

Spot on about the micro card, though.

Even though the manual says it’s compatible. From my experience large capacity (SDXC) SD Cards DO NOT work well with those cameras for some reason. It often causes the camera to lockup or hang. Using 32GB or smaller cards resolves this issue. Don’t know why it does it. Even the manual says that they’re “compatible” they’re not.
