EOS R5 Mark II - Video in Photo Mode

Greetings,

I'm new to the community,  but I've owned Canon cameras for over 50 years!

I'm a hybrid shooter and frequently, and oftentimes quickly, have to take video amongst my photo-shooting efforts.  As I understand it, the camera (EOS R5 Mark II) uses C3 (movie) when pressing the red record button in photo mode.  That is fine,  though I prefer the R6's separate settings for this. My issues is that when I press the record button, it crops the video.  However, it does not crop the video in movie mode.  Is this a bug or oversight? Is there a work-around other than switching modes?  If the former, can it be added to the list of fixes to be incorporated in the next firmware release?

Thanks,

Marc

Greetings,

I don't think this is a bug.  I believe it's as designed, but we need some additional information from you to confirm.  What resolution are you capturing stills in?  Are you capturing RAW, cRAW, RAW+JPG?? Aspect ratio is 3:2 or 16:9?

I own the R5 C, but we have plenty of R5 mkII users / resources.  Please provide this info about your camera settings. 🙂

I did a little more research.  Some lenses can cause this behavior.  What lens or lenses are you shooting with that exhibit this behavior?

Cropping can also occur if you have digital IS enabled.  You didn't say how much of a crop you were seeing?

Hello Rick,

Thanks for your assistance.  It is appreciated.  Here's some additional detail:

Photo:  Jpeg + cRAW

Recording info.... 4K-U Fine @ 30fps Intra light, no custom picture, picture style STANDARD

Recording format: XF-AVC S YCC422 10 bit,  Movie cropping disabled.

Lenses: RF 24-70 f/2.8L, RF 15-35 f/2.8L,  RF 50mm f/1.8 STM.  Digital IS = disabled.

Crop factor is reminiscent of going to crop mode. 1.5?

Hope this helps.
