I have a Canon EOS 600D with a EF-S 18-55mm zoom lens that works well on autofocus. I recently bought a Canon EF 28-105 mm zoom lens but the autofocus does not work on this, only manual focus. Is the EF lens not able to use autofocus on this camera, must all lenses be EF-S ?

An EF lens should work fine. If you bought it new, return it.
Make sure the AF/MF switch is on the AF position

If you really mean the EF 28-105 USM (rather than EF 24-105) that is a very old lens (circa 2002 at latest), so one would assume that it is second-hand. It should be capable of autofocus. It is not going to be supported, Keith's advice about returning it to the vendor still applies: if you got it from a reputable source, they should accept it.
