Recently I got a canon r50 and within the last few weeks of using I noticed that upon taking a large burst of photos the shutter slows down and eventually takes only a few pictures a second.
I am wondering if this is an issue with the camera or it is just a limitation on the camera due to its small and compact size and price for a “entry level” camera.

It’s not an issue it’s the camera’s buffer hitting the max. My EOS 5D Mark IV does exactly the same thing when the buffer is full. A higher speed card can reduce this but the buffer is only so big.

Same as deebatman316 on both the R50 and R6 MkII. Once that buffer starts to fill the shutter slows. I started doing bursts where I release the shutter button for a few seconds to allow the card to catch up.
