Did you mean:

Canon R5 or R6 mark II?

So I’ve become a father and it’s taken a heavy toll on my photography business. So I don’t exactly have the funds to purchase cameras.

On the other hand, I want to upgrade from my old 6D. Because I want to take lots of pictures of my kid (my best photo of him is taken on an R5 by another photographer), and I’d also love to take my photography business to the next level and having the best camera would help with that…

I’d like your honest opinion, should I go with one of these two, or something completely different?

Yep, it is tempting to carry on a passion when suddenly our lifetime is rebalanced because of a major change.  A few years ago I bought a barely used EOS 5DsR that was put up for sale because the guy had wanted to get serious about photography.  When his wife had twins that all went out the window and he got a cheap point and shoot, and I got a pretty good deal on the camera.
I'm not saying that applies specifically to our OP but, as a general principle, sometimes one has to constrain or even put on the shelf for a while our own personal ambitions in favour of new responsibilities.  Still that is his decision.

I was also in the same budget dilemma and I have a granddaughter that is active in sports and I like to take pictures of wildlife action shots.  So after lots of research and comparison I  decided to purchase the R6 Mark II.   If your a professional using your camera to earn a living, I'd say go with the R5 as it is 45 megapixels compare to the R6 Mark II at 24.5 megapixels.  The difference in price between the R6 Mark II and the R5 is $1000.00, however if your using your camera to make for income it will pay for itself many times over, so don't settle.  Both cameras are great for what they're meant to do.  I hope this helps..  Let me know which one you decide on.

I, like amfoto1, recommend using this website to compare the Canon R5 and R6 Mark II..   " The website at this link can be a useful way to quickly compare two cameras " ..  I used it when I was doing my own research among other sources.  It makes one think about how the camera will be used, ei.. for stills or action shots and/or movies...    Good luck with your decision  !
