Canon EOS R6 Mark II. Canon RF 24-70 f/2.8 L IS USM. AF set to One Shot, AF area set to spot, no servo, no subject recognition, no eye recognition, no whole area tracking, all these turned off. Focus area behaves as expected for a while, then suddenly I get this rectangular focus area that roams around a bit and randomly focuses on a larger area of the frame. Where else can I look in the settings to get this to stop? Thanks!

The camera should not be changing the selected AF point mode on its own. Be aware that button in the top corner of the back panel allows you to change the AF point mode.
Check your Custom Control settings for buttons and dials. It is not uncommon for users to experiment with settings and then forget about changing the settings.
It happens to me more than I want to admit. So I strive to use a Custom Shooting mode for my photography. I switch away from using a Custom Shooting mode when I want to experiment.
