Best prosumer camera / videocam for shooting at New York Fashion Week

I need to purchase an HD video camera to shoot at New York Fashion Week and I'm considering a camera / video cam combo so I can stop carrying around so much equipment. 

The video capablity needs to shoot in the extreme lighting of a runway setting and also do well in a low light setting. The video needs to be TV quality. I only do this twice a year, so I don't want to invest a fortune, but want something that is good quality. 

As for the camera - low light and fast shutter speed is a must. The models walk very fast and we can't use a flash. Although the lighting is extremely bright on the runway. 

I'd appreciate any advice on which of the prosumer options would be the best.

Some guy from Public Broadcasting came to the shop to do a documentary and he used the Canon 7D. He said they shoot all their stuff on this camera. He had just got back form Isreal also doing a doc there.

I don't do video so I am just reporting on what I saw him do.
