New Lens for video

I am just purchasing a 7d for a trip I will be taking to Nigeria.  I will be doing a lot of video for it, but most of the video will be handshakes and the such.  Nigeria is very bright.  What type of lens would you recommend for the trip?  I need something that will be pretty smooth for zooming.  I am looking to spend between 300.00-800.00

There's a lot of lens choices out there, and it really comes down to personal preference of what you're trying to get out of a lens.   That said, if you're just looking for an purpose lens, wide range, good for video, in that price range, the 18 - 135 STM seems to fit the bill.
