Lens Recommendations for Beginners?

Hi! I am looking to upgrade my kit lenses that I got with my Canon EOS Rebel T5 (18-55mm and 75-300mm zoom lens). I recently purchased the 50mm f/1.8 and want to build up my collection to continue practicing. I've heard good things about the 24 mm f/2.8 but I am still a beginner and don't know too much about lenses yet 🙂

What is your budget to spend on a lens and what are you using it for. Buying a lot of gear doesn’t help you unless you need a particular lens. I would use your 18-55mm and set it to 24mm to see if you like that focal length. If you don’t like that focal length but you bought the lens already you may be stuck with it. Unless you’re still in the lens return period.

So helpful thank you! I have not purchased the 24 yet, just the 50mm! And I just got the 50mm too, FedEx hasn't even delivered it yet. I'll most likely be using it for portraits, pets and nature (for now) since I am just starting out as a hobby and would love to learn more! Honestly the larger lens is just a pain to carry around when I don't need that much zoom haha

This lens will give you a modest wide angle view. Some photographers love that while others prefer a wider angle -which can be harder to make work but can give more dramatic results.
Which do you think you are? Like Demetrius says, using your kit lens set at various focal lengths might help you decide.
Or go ahead and buy it, then decide😄. Lenses are easy to resell on ebay, etc
