The zoom would be much more practical and flexible, and an extra stop or so is not important with the low-light capability of the R6 mk II.

You mentioned the RF24-70mm f2.8 which is and outstanding lens. When shooting street that is my primary lens and it performs excellently mounted on the R6 MkII. This combination is excellent in low light. The other lens is much slower and I use it when there is good available light and that is the RF24-240mm F4-6.3 IS USM. For a $900 lens this light weight, compact is a constant performer with nice range and very good IQ.
I had to downsize the image to post it here but it still shows that with good light the color, DR and IQ are pretty darn nice for a "budget" lens. You can easy carry this combo all day without noticing the weight.

Like kvbarkley mentioned, the 24-70mm would be much more practical.
You already have 100-400mm range covered. If you were to get a prime like the 35mm, it would be nice for many of those shots, but as someone who also likes to shoot street, festivals, and people, you would often feel limited by just the 35mm (or 85mm) range. Most of these types of events you will want to be closer to 24mm to get a bit of the crowd into the shot, but there will also be times you want to zoom in for closer images, and the 70mm (and everything in between) would be nice.
Another nice alternative would be the 24-105mm F/4 L which would fill in the gap between this new lens and your 100-400mm. I have the 24-105mm F/4-7.1 and it is actually a great lens for a kit lens... great range, and very sharp. I have heard that the f/4 version is quite a bit nicer (but I have not had hands on experience with that one). I'm sure others here in the forum can vouch for the F/4 version.

Very good advice so take it. Always buy zooms before primes.

As a photography student you should already know that most lenses are not at their best IQ wide open such a f1.4
