Best wide angle lens for Canon 20D.

Indee

Hello,

I'm looking for the best and/or second best wide angle lens options for my Canon 20D DSLR considering the chip size in the camera which I is 22.5mm x15mm. This would be used mostly for panoramas in the desert southwest USA and occasional Aurora Borealis when I'm in AK. Auto focus is not essential as most shots will be at infinity.

Thank you,

Bill

Given the crop factor of your sensor as suggested, I would suggest considering the following:
EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM FoV Equivalent: 27- 88mm - great optic, but you may want wider
EF-S 10-28 f/4.5-5.6 STM, Fov Equivalent: 16-29mm, faster to focus but slower aperture
EF-S 15-85 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, FoV 24-135mm, great all-round travel lens
EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5, FoV: 16-35mm definitely wide angle, faster than the STM, good lens - I had one.
Side by Side Comparison Canon EF-S 10-18mm F4.5–5.6 IS STM vs. Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM v...

I think the Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM would work nicely for you.

Hello Trevor,

I appreciate your reply taking into account the chip size factor. I was pretty sure I had the math right but was not certain. You confirmed it. Out of those you suggested I think the EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 would work best but I wish it were faster.

One more question. Are there any wide/fast vintage lenses that would fit this 20D? Something I'd have buy used? Faster is better for Aurora Borealis, as is wider. I would even consider fish eye for Aurora.

Thank you

Bill
