Hi been looking at a lightweight telephoto lens for my 5DIII. Mostly looking at the Tamron 100-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD or the 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG OS Contemporary. Just seeing if anyone has advice for either or better options. Thanks in advance

My advice would be to check out the Tamron G2 150-600mm super zoom before you buy either 100-400. If it would work for you remember you can never have to much FL.

Hi and welcome to the forum:
What kinds of subjects do you intend to photograph? If wildlife, which kinds of wildlife - big mammals, birds etc.?
Are you absolutely fixed on that focal range? As my respected colleague @Ebiggs1 suggested, for wildlife focal range is a major requirement.

“ … for wildlife focal range is a major requirement.“
yes it is plus the 150-600mm covers almost the same FL plus the additional 200mm to 600mm.
