TS6400 ink smearing with highlighter

I have a TS6400 printer and I'm using regular Canon ink.  When I've tried highlighting text, it smears horribly though.  I've tried different highlighters, even one labeled "smear guard."  Is this just a problem with the ink though?  I've used other inkjet printers and haven't had this issue.

So that the Community can help you better, we need to know exactly which Canon printer model you're using within the PIXMA TS6400 series.  The model number should appear on the front of the unit at the bottom right corner.  That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!
