After wasting much time, effort and paper while blaming Canon for my prints coming out in wide bars instead of smooth image, I finally turned my attention to the ink cartridges.
Even though ink levels were all satisfactory, and I did several nozzle cleanings, etc. the ultimate source of my problem was that the cartridges were not dispensing ink evenly. Apparently, after being unused for a few weeks, this problem occurs when the ink cartridges get "constipated" Not a technical term, but you get the picture.
Sorry Canon that I misdirected my frustration at your printer!
I wish this solution was quicker and easier to find.
