MP830 Print Head error on startup. I just want to use this device as a scanner

A few weeks ago I started getting an Printhead error on my MP830.  The error message appears at startup, and prevents any other use of this all-in-one device, including scanning.

Is there any way I can continue to use the MP830 as a scanner only?
