Grayscale printing

I have a Canon ip2600 printer, I only ever ever want to print grayscale. Do I have to have a color cartridge installed in the printer to have it work for grayscale printing only, even if not using it?

Hi patti,

Both ink cartridges will need to be installed in the printer in order for it to print, even if one of the ink cartridges is low or out of ink, or if you are just printing using one of the cartridges.  If you would like instruction for setting the printer to print in grayscale mode, please reply with what operating system is on your computer (WIndows XP, Vista, 7, 8 or version of Mac OS) and we will be happy to provide instruction.
